The City of Butler remains under a state of emergency following heavy flooding earlier this week.
Mayor Tom Donaldson also instituted a curfew that will run through the weekend and he is asking people who don’t live there to stay out of the West End.
“If you don’t live in the neighborhood, don’t be in the neighborhood,” Donaldson said. “We don’t need people down there that don’t belong down there.”
Volunteers with the Butler chapter of the American Red Cross will be back out in the city Friday assessing damaging and providing assistance.
Ten dumpsters will be available throughout the city today to assist residents with clean-up.
(Dumpster locations: West Diamond St by swinging bridge; Hayes Avenue by Shiloh Baptist Church; Battery Warehouse parking lot; Miller Ave at entrance to Memorial Park; Broad Street Elementary School main entrance)
There is a relief center open inside First English Lutheran Church on North Main Street. Clean-up kits are also available inside the Butler City Fire Department.
Anyone needing any type of assistance should call 211. If you need to be put on a list to get your basement pumped, contact the fire department directly (724-283-3100).
More rain is expected Friday. According to the National Weather Service, showers and storms are possible in our area after 2 p.m. Some of the storms could be severe with the primary threats being damaging wind gusts, large hail and localized flooding due to heavy downpours.
