The city of Butler has settled a lawsuit filed by a former Butler City Police Chief nearly three years ago.
As part of Thursday’s meeting, council approved a motion to approve a General Release and Settlement Agreement with former Chief Ron Brown in which the city and Brown deny any wrongdoing.
A copy of the approved settlement reveals that Brown will receive a total of $32,500 with $15,000 coming from the City and the remainder being paid by the City’s insurance carrier. Each party is responsible for their own attorney fees.
In April of 2019, Brown sued the city demanding payment for lost compensation time, pensions and personal days totaling just over $30,000. Brown worked for the city for 28 years before retiring in 2018.
A separate lawsuit filed by former Deputy Chief Dave Adam concerning a similar complaint is still pending ongoing litigation.
