Butler’s volunteer Parking Authority board voted Monday to dissolve as the city continues its plan to pass along parking responsibilities to a paid parking manager.
The authority’s 3-0 vote Monday comes after Mayor Tom Donaldson replaced two board members who voted against the move last week. He maintains he had the authority to do that because the city code states authorities and boards serve at the discretion of the mayor.
Parking Authority Chairman Jim Chiprean will likely become the new part-time parking manager. The mayor says city council is still working through a job description and salary, and plans to hire someone early next year.
The mayor says the authority needed to disband in order to streamline and modernize parking in the city.
