The City of Butler has received four applications for their vacant fire chief position.
Butler City Mayor Tom Donaldson said the city would wait a while longer for other applications to come in before moving onto the interview process.
Although the hiring of a new fire chief needs approval by a majority of City Council, the mayor says the interview process will involve the members of council who would like to be involved.
Director of Public Safety Councilwoman Kathy Kline said she will be involved in the interview process; however, she does not believe any of the current applicants would be a “good fit” for the position.
Former Chief Nick Ban gave council his retirement in April following a decision by the mayor to demote him. Since then, the ranking firefighter on duty has served as acting chief.
Councilwoman Kline was strongly opposed to the mayor’s attempt to demote Ban.
