The city of Butler is trying to come up with a solution to combat the growing number of old televisions left on curbsides.
Since trash collectors will not handle these kinds of materials, Building Code Official John Evans and City Clerk Mindy Gall investigated what it would take to host an electronic and hazardous waste collection.
Butler County contracts with Environmental Coordination Services and Recycling, who stages these kinds of events. Residents make appointments to drop off their unwanted materials and are charged 45-cents per pound to recycle. Getting businesses to help sponsor this collection could help defray that cost.
The city has not yet decided to host one of these collections but if they did, it would likely take place in late July or sometime in August.
