A local company and their partners anticipate finding out soon about their application to create a medical marijuana or cannabis grow and dispensary operation in Butler.
Kent Hartley and his brother Trent have joined with Cresco Labs in Illinois to apply to the Pennsylvania Department of Health for one of 12 available licenses. Their company name is Cresco Yeltrah.
The application process started in late March.
“We expect answers sometime by the middle to the end of June,” Hartley said Tuesday.
In anticipation of the approval of their application, the group has already started preparing the site they have chosen at the former Pullman Standard plant in the city of Butler.
“We’ve been very busy over the course of the last few months readying the site, cleaning it up and recycling all the concrete and bricks,” he said. “I think we should be digging the foundations this week.”
Hartley believes his company’s application is strengthened by his partners’ successful history in 13 other states as well as placing a premium on security and engaging the community.
As many as 120 people could eventually be employed at the facility if it is approved.
