The City of Butler admits there is a problem on West Penn Street when Emily Brittain Elementary School dismisses for the day but city officials say a solution should be found by the school.
School Board member Suzie Bradrick spoke at the Butler City Council agenda-setting meeting Tuesday as a concerned parent about the situation that has parents and kids running out onto West Penn Street at school dismissal.
Although city council is going to try to designate an area across from the school as a pickup zone on a trial basis, everyone agreed that this will not be enough to address this safety issue.
Mayor Tom Donaldson said the city is unable to shut down the road during dismissal. City Police officers at the meeting recommended that school administrators return to the dismissal strategy used in previous years when this was not a problem.
