Two generations of a local family involved in the city of Butler politics were honored on Thursday.
“I chose to name today ‘Schontz Appreciation Day’ -not only to honor Rick- but to honor his dad, Richard Schontz, Sr., for his service to the community,” Mayor Tom Donaldson declared during Thursday’s Butler City Council meeting, which was the final meeting for Councilman Rick Schontz.
Former Mayor Dick Schontz was in attendance and also received a certificate and recognition.
Rick Schontz says he will look back with good memories on his six and a half years spend on council.
“I’m going to miss you guys and miss the process,” Schontz said. “I really feel honored and blessed that I was given the opportunity and got to work with all of you guys and former city council, and mayor, and individuals, and everybody, you’ve just been fantastic.”
City council now has 30 days to agree on a person by majority vote to finish out the final year and a half of Schontz’s term or the courts will appoint someone.
