Butler City Council is expected to approve a contract with a new garbage collector.
Waste Management submitted a lower bid for garbage and recyclable collection than the city’s current contractor Vogel Disposal. The contract would be for three years.
City residents with regular residential rates would see a slight decrease per month during the first year. Rates will increase slightly in 2019 and 2020.
The contract would also add a “senior citizen” service for residents over 65 who are property owners. The contract would charge seniors about $2 less per month than the regular residential rate.
Currently, through the city’s contract with Vogel Disposal, there is a ‘Service Level 2’ option, also known as a “Sticker Program.” The charge for this program is significantly lower, at $7 a month in 2017. However, that service will be going away in 2018 and replaced with the “Senior Citizen” service.
