A field of Democratic candidates for City Council will be wielded down in tomorrow’s primary election.
Three people are seeking the two spots up for grabs for the Democrats heading into the general election in the fall.
Councilwoman Kathy Kline has served three terms on council and is campaigning for her fourth. She currently serves as the the city’s director of public safety.
Councilman Ken Bonus was appointed last year to finish the term of former councilman Rick Schontz. Bonus is seeking his first elected term to council. Bonus runs his own accounting firm in the city and currently serves as the director of streets and public improvements.
Dane Winkler is a political newcomer challenging for one of the top two spots. Winkler works at the Butler Eagle as an Information Systems Specialists and is also a co-founder of the Penn Theatre Performance Company– a group trying to renovate the Main Street theatre as an event venue.
The top two vote-getters will move on to the general election in the fall, where they will meet at least one Republican in James Kemple, who is the only council candidate on the GOP’s primary ballot.
