Recent actions by Butler City Council are advancing the next phase in a project to improve the look of the downtown Butler area.
At their meeting last week, Council approved a motion to award construction inspection staffing to A and A Consultants at an hourly rate of just under $30 per hour for Phase 3 of the Streetscape Project.
This is the same project that new poles and street lights along Main Street a couple years ago with funding from a SMART grant. This portion of the project is expected to include ADA compliance for sidewalks on New Castle Street, new trees, trash cans, and bike racks.
“Part of the wells that the trees will be in will be made of this material that will allow it to be permiable and the water to go down through. It’s going to be very nice,” Mayor Bob Dandoy said. “We now have the lights on Main Street. Like I’ve always said, once we got the lights installed it’s like being at home and you look up after you paint the walls and realize the carpet needs to go.”
“So now we’re working on the trees, the trash cans, and then sooner or later it’s going to be the sidewalk and benches. Step by step, we’re going to get Main Street looking good again.”
City representatives recently met with engineers about the project but it is not yet known when this work will begin.
