The city of Butler has approved a plan for the 2015 Community Development Block Grant program.
The second of two public hearings took place earlier this week and city council accepted the nearly $275,000 proposal at their meeting Thursday.
A minimum of 70 percent of these funds must directly benefit low to moderate income residents. Over $80,000 will go toward street improvements and $50,000 will be spent on curbs and sidewalks.
About $50,000 will be spent in continuing payment on a rescue/pumper truck for the Butler City Fire Department and $25,000 is scheduled for the continuation of the Owner Occupied Housing Rehabilitation Program.
Smaller amounts will be spent on code enforcement, blight clearance, and administration.
The city recently received approval from the state for the 2013 CDBG application so it could be two years or more before word is received on this year’s application.
