If you wait until after New Year’s is over to begin un-decorating your house, you might be wondering how to get rid of your cut Christmas tree today.
There are several locations in Butler County that offer recycling for cut Christmas trees. Some locations require you to drop off your tree; others will pick up your tree curbside. All services require that your tree is completely free of all decorations and any plastic bag used to transport it.
Officials say recycled Christmas trees can be used in several ways if municipal regulations allow- including to create brush piles that provide a resting areas and escape locations for birds and small animals.
Recycling services:
-Seneca Landfill: 421 Hartmann Road, Evans City, PA. Call 724-625-9000. Drop off only through Jan. 31, 2019. $5 fee per tree. Ask for directions at the scale house when you enter site. Seneca landfill.
-Cranberry Township Residential Curbside Collection. No charge during the weeks of Jan. 7 and Jan. 14 on the customer’s collection day Cut tree into 4-foot lengths, remove ornaments, tinsel and lights. Do not place in plastic bags. 724-776-4806
-Back To Nature (Stirling Landscaping Center): 840 Mercer Road, Butler. 724-287-7921. Call before dropping off. Cost is $3/tree for dropoff until the end of February 2019.
-Slippery Rock Community Park: 320 N. Main St, Slippery Rock. Call 724-794-8180. Free drop off only through Jan. 2, 2018. Drop off site will be clearly marked and trees must be placed in that area.
The county recycling department says some other communities may have a curbside pickup program for their residents. You should call your municipal building for details.
