The special needs child who fell out of a second-story window in Butler Township Wednesday is expected to make a full recovery.
Police Chief John Hays told our newsroom, “Luckily the child is definitely doing better. We talked to the parents this afternoon and he has a small skull fracture and a tear near the eardrum and should be a full recovery.”
The 5-year-old child, who has Down syndrome, was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital and then flown to Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Police and other agencies are still investigating how the child was somehow able to open the window inside his Center Avenue apartment and fall but charges are not expected to be filed.
“At this point, it doesn’t look like it. We’re still investigating a little bit. We’ve got children and youth involved. They’re coming in and checking some things. The house was pretty neat. They had security measures on doors and it was kinds well maintained so I don’t think that there’s much that we’re going to do as far as charging,” Hays explained.
The apartment was one of several inside the home.
The child is very lucky to have been left with just a small fracture and tear. If your child or children ever suffer from a fracture in an accident like this then you will want to take them to a trusted pediatric orthopedic practice for the best possible treatment.
