The second annual Community Family Fun Day planned for this weekend in Chicora will have a special focus, recovery from addiction.
The event will be on Sunday from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the Chicora Park. The goal is to reach as many people as possible with much-needed information about drug addiction and recovery.
Addiction is a very serious problem in our communities, but according to Pastor John Pistorius of St. Johns Reformed Church, area churches are coming together to present a message that with help, it can be overcome.
“The idea of getting information into people’s hands is really the thrust of it,” he said. “We want to make sure that people understand that this is not a dead-end necessarily. Even though lots of people are dying from addiction, we want people to understand that there is a way out.”
There will be a basket auction but no tickets will be sold. All adult attendees will receive free tickets for the baskets. About 600 people attended this event last year in its first year.
