The 1st Annual Community Family Fun Day on Sunday, August 13, 2017, will have a special focus…recovery from addiction.
Churches and pastors have teamed up to create this event addressing the issue of drug addiction and focusing on the fact that recovery can happen.
The event will be on Sunday, August 13, from 2pm until dark at the Chicora Park. The goal is to reach as many people as possible with much-needed information about recovery.
Pastor John Pistorius, St. Johns Reformed Church, Chicora, and Pastor Mark Wallace, Chicora Alliance Church, have led the way on this effort with other churches and pastors coming on board.
Pastor Pistorius served as the President of the Petroleum Valley Ministerium who has always worked with the Ministerium in East Brady. Together, in the past, the different church communities and pastors collaborated in A Walk of Hope in East Brady and A Walk of Hope in Chicora.
Pastor John believes, “It is important for minister’s to cooperate to battle serious issues like this.” The ministers of the Petroleum Valley Ministerium and the East Brady Ministerium have built unity among local churches and ministers.” He says togetherness benefits the entire community. “The ministers here are stepping over denominational lines to team up in this effort.” Pistorius said.
Currently in Chicora, there is a church looking to start a Biblically based recovery group, but they are not quite set up yet. A representative from a similar group in Butler will be onsite on Sunday at the Community Family Fun Day in Chicora. Also Teen & Adult Challenge will be at Sunday’s event with individuals sharing their experiences.
There will be a basket auction but no tickets will be sold. All adult attendees will receive free tickets for the baskets.
