The former maintenance director for the Butler Area School District has been charged for his role in the contaminated water discovered last year at Summit Township Elementary School.
Glenn Terwilliger, 58, of Chicora was charged Friday with several misdemeanors- including endangering the welfare of children.
Police allege Terwilliger knowingly put students and faculty in danger by failing to notify school officials that the water at the school contained elevated levels of lead and copper. Police say he went as far as telling his supervisors that the water was safe for consumption, going against Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection recommendations.
“Terwilliger was the district’s certified water operator and thus it was his responsibility to ensure the school’s water was safe for consumption,” according to a police criminal complaint.
Terwilliger was a 35-year employee of the district. He resigned last year.
