A home in Center Township was struck by lightning during Wednesday’s severe storm that rolled through the county.
Unionville Volunteer Fire Chief Nathan Wulff says the lightning hit a log home on Spring Run Road about 7:30 p.m.
“A man was home went it happened,” Wulff said. “He heard the lightning strike and went outside to investigate. The strike had actually caught tires on fire under his porch. He put those out with a fire extinguisher.”
Eight fire departments were called in to help battle the stubborn blaze.
“It ended up taking us awhile to get the fire under control,” he said. “It was a log home and the way it was constructed made it really difficult to get to where the fire actually was.”
No one was hurt. The home is not livable. Wulff estimated at least $150,000 in damage was done due to smoke and water.
