A Center Township home has been completely destroyed by a fire.
Firefighters spent four hours battling the flames Monday night at the Unionville Road home and another three hours this morning Tuesday morning after the fire rekindled.
The initial fire started about 8 p.m. Monday at the two-story home on Unionville Road, just off Route 8 between Maser and Brown roads.
“I was the first one on scene and I could see visible flames from about a quarter mile away,” Unionville Fire Chief Nathan Wulff said.
Wulff says there was one man inside when the fire started. He was able to escape with his dog, but he did suffer some minor burns and was taken to the hospital to get checked out.
Firefighters had a hard time putting out the initial fire due to hoarding conditions.
“We put the fire out last night but we couldn’t really get inside the house because of a hoarding situation,” Wulff said. “We apparently missed a hot spot last night and the fire rekindled about 4 a.m. Tuesday morning.”
The fire is believed to be accidental- possibly caused by an electric space heater- but the state police fire marshal is investigating.
