Engineers are testing the water at Butler Area School District’s Center Township Elementary School after a teacher discovered “black particles” in the water.
Principal Jeff Mathieson said in a letter sent to parents that a teacher noticed the particles on Monday. Students and teachers have stopped using the water fountains at the school until engineers can test samples and determine what the particles are.
Officials believe the issue may have started after a power outage at the school last week, which affected the facility’s water pumps.
Center Township Elementary receives water from a public water line.
