Central Electric Cooperative is looking for a local veteran to nominate for the ‘No Barriers’ program.
The program sponsors expeditions that mentally and physically challenge rural veterans through things like mountaineering, rafting and rock climbing. The program was co-founded by Erik Weihenmayer, who is an internationally renewed mountain climber and the only blind person to ever reach the summit of Mount Everest.
Fifty veterans will participate in the program next year free of charge. Central Electric wants to nominate someone from their service area- which includes a portion of Butler County.
Veterans must have VA disability ratings to qualify. Interested vets are requested to send a letter to Central Electric summarizing their military background, length of service and why they wish to attend the No Barriers expedition. These letters may be sent electronically to[email protected] or by mailed to Chris O’Donnell, Central Electric Cooperative, 716 Route 368, P.O. Box 329, Parker, PA 16049-0329 by Jan. 1, 2017.
