One man is in custody after stealing one car and attempting two other carjackings all in the City of Butler.
Brian James Vlassich- also known as BJ- of Butler is facing a laundry list of charges today. Police allege he attempted to carjack two people, tried to board a school bus and then did successfully steal a car, which he then allegedly crashed into a ditch.
The bizarre incidents all played out in the City of Butler early Friday afternoon. A woman told Butler City Police she was parked at the intersection of Liberty and West Wayne streets waiting for her daughter to get dropped off from school when a man attempted to open several of her car doors. When the school bus pulled up, the man allegedly tried to walk on it, according to court documents.
Another victim told police he was parked near West Wayne and South Washington streets when a man attempted to open his driver’s side door.
Police say while they were checking the area for the suspect, they got a call that a Ford Explorer was stolen from a parking lot on South Washington Street.
Police later found that vehicle in a ditch near Walmart in Butler Township. According to court documents, Vlassich admitted to the crimes but didn’t give a reason why he did it.
