The Pittsburgh Pirates fell to the St. Louis Cardinals 2-1 last night. The Pirates did not manage a run against Cardinals starter Lance Lynn over seven innings, gathering just three hits. Pirate starter Ivan Nova took the loss despite allowing just five hits. He did not walk a batter and struck out three. Josh Bell had two of the Pirates five hits. The Bucs and Cards play again tonight at 8:15pm. Chad Kuhl goes to the mound for the Pirates against Mike Leake of the Cardinals.
The Pirates acquired right-handed pitcher Johnny Barbato from the New York Yankees Monday for a player-to-be-named or cash. He was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis by the Pirates. Barbato made the Yankees opening-day roster last season, but appeared in only 13 innings before being sent to the minors.
