The St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 11-7 last night at PNC Park. The Pirates had built a 5-1 lead, only to have the Cardinals whittle away at that lead. Jameson Taillon allowed four earned runs over five innings before being removed after a lengthy rain delay. Relievers Joaquin Benoit and Wade LeBlanc allowed a total of seven earned runs. The Pirates had 15 hits in the game, led by Josh Harrison and Andrew McCutchen who had three hits each, but also left 10 men on base.
The Pirates fell to 58-63 overall, but remain 5-1/2 games behind the Chicago Cubs, who lost 13-10 to the Boston Red Sox. The Pirates host the Cards again tonight at 7:05pm. Pre-game on WISR 680am will be 6:40pm.
(The Bucs play at 4:05pm Saturday, 3:40pm pre-game on WISR. Sunday’s game begins at 7:05pm in Williamsport.)
The Pirates have placed catcher Francisco Cervelli on the disabled list because of a lingering wrist issue.
