The St. Louis Cardinals hammered the Pittsburgh Pirates 17-4 last night in the opening game of a four-game series. The Cardinals chased Pirates starting pitcher Joe Musgrove by the fourth inning. He allowed eight runs and had a career-high five walks. Two relievers who have been called up from the minor league’s due to various injuries weren’t much better. Clay Holmes gave up three runs and hit a batter over two innings. Dovydas Neverauskas gave up five runs in the sixth inning.
Gregory Polanco had three hits last night, including his second home run of the year.
The Pirates had recalled reliever Montana DuRapau from Triple-A Indianapolis along with Holmes for the Cardinals series. DuRapau made his debut last night, allowing one run over two innings.
The Bucs and Cards play again tonight at 8:15pm. WISR pre-game is 7:50pm.
