The second meeting of a new community group targeting drug activity, addiction and other problems is planned for later this week.
The group will hold their next meeting on Wednesday, March 28 at 7 p.m. at the Butler City Fire Station/Public Safety Building. Butler’s Neighborhood Drug Watch confronts the problem of drugs in our community through education, law enforcement and recovery.
“My favorite word in all of this is empower. I want to empower our community to take ownership, which I do believe the city of Butler has taken ownership of the problem and we have recognized it for a long time that we have indeed had a problem,” Kathy Kline, one of the grassroots organizers of the group and a former city councilwoman, said in an interview.
The Neighborhood Drug Watch website contains a comprehensive list of resources compiled by the public in one simple and easy to reference spot. According to Kline, it is essential that people remain persistent in their activities to reduce the drug epidemic.
“My second favorite word is persistence,” she said. “Not only do we want to empower our city, and our residents, to give them the tools that they can do something to make a difference but they have to understand, you have to be persistent.”
