A Butler School District elementary school has been selected to participate in a national Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program.
The United States Department of Agriculture Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program provides students with a fresh fruit or vegetable snack at school during the school day to increase their consumption of healthy foods and expose them to a variety of fruits and veggies.
Students at Emily Brittain Elementary School in the city of Butler will participate in the program this year. Participation is limited to schools that participate in the National School Lunch Program, with means 50 percent of students are getting a free or reduced rate lunch. Officials say all Emily Brittain students have access to free breakfast and lunch.
The produce will come from local produce vendor Paragon Produce.
