Butler Township will contract with their planning consultant to develop a zoning change that officials say could encourage the development of future housing plans.
The township commissioners voted unanimously during a meeting Monday to spend up to $2,300 to direct Richard Grossman of Olsen Engineering to draft an amendment to the current zoning ordinance that would allow for developing quad-style development plans on larger properties zoned Residential 1.
According to township zoning officer Jesse Hines, making that move would provide developers with a more cost-effective option to deliver a housing option that has become popular in surrounding municipalities. This would likely only apply to parcels of land 20 acres and larger.
The change is expected to be presented to the township commissioners in three months, at which time a public hearing would be scheduled before a final vote is taken to enact the ordinance.
