Butler Township-owned Preston Park remains closed due to damage caused by the ice and snow storm two weeks ago.
Township Manager Tom Knights says the roads in the park have been cleared, but the park’s trails remain impassable due to fallen trees, limbs and branches. But even more dangerous, is that several broken limbs and branches are hung up in trees and could fall to the ground at any time- posing a threat to visitors.
“It’s just not a safe place for the public to be right now,” Knights said Wednesday morning. “Some trees are still across trails. But the overhanging trees are still a real concern.”
It’s unclear when Preston Park will re-open. It could be as late as January, or even later if the weather doesn’t cooperate, Knights says.
The park is located off Whitestown Road in Meridian.
