A new Butler Township ordinance will allow for greater flood protection in some areas that were removed from the most recent revision of the federal flood map.
Butler Township commissioners revised their floodplain ordinance in May due to changes made to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) flood maps.
The new ordinance would allow the local community to add other properties back onto the map as flood–prone including the lower portion of Whitestown Road, a portion of Old Plank Road and some parts of Crisswell Road.
Insurance rates for residents owning those properties will not be affected by this new ordinance but it would affect certain construction rules and requirements.
