The Butler Township Planning Commission has recommended denying the request of a zoning change.
Property owner Robert McGowan made the application to change two parcels of land at the corner of South Duffy Road and Staley Avenue from Residential to Commercial. McGowan pointed out the property to the north is zoned commercial even though it is being used as residential and the area has changed. He also admitted he has no current offers for the one- acre property that has been vacant since 2010.
Township planners and zoning officials expressed concern with how the increased traffic of a commercial business would affect the area. The location of the property- which is on the crest of a busy township- maintained road- is also not an ideal situation for commercial development.
The Butler Township Commissioners will consider the change of zoning request with the recommended denial from the planning commission at their regular meeting later this month (Nov. 21).
