Butler Township will join communities across the country this evening in participating in ‘National Night Out’ to help promote positive police-community relationships.
The event is held every year on the first Tuesday in August.
“It’s a casual event… an opportunity for us to talk with the people so they can put a face with the uniform and the police car that goes by everyday,” Butler Township Police Chief John Hays said.
The event was started in an effort to make communities safer through neighborhood camaraderie and to help bring back a true sense of community. In Butler Township, the event will be held this year in Meadowood starting at 6 p.m.
The Butler Township Police Department and the township commissioners will be on-hand to meet and talk with residents.
Chief Hays believes the township police department has a good relationship with residents and this event helps grow that even more.
“I think we do have a good relationship,” he said. “This event strengths that. It’s a positive thing.”
This will be the fourth year that Butler Township has participated in ‘National Night Out.’ Organizers say they try to go to a different part of the township each year.
