Butler Township Manager Ed Kirkwood has given notice that he plans to retire in less than two months.
Kirkwood read a letter from himself to the board of commissioners near the end of Monday night’s meeting in which he announced that July 20 will be his last day in the office. Using paid days off, he will continue to be a township employee through the middle of September.
The commissioners asked Kirkwood to determine a current job description, as well as necessary qualifications and to get that information to them for review as soon as possible. The job opening could be advertised and resumes accepted as early as next week.
Kirkwood said he and his wife came to this decision last weekend in order to allow for more time with family and to travel. Kirkwood is 69 years old with over 34 years in public service, including over 10 years as Butler Township Manager.
