Butler Township is seeking state assistance for a large undertaking at Preston Park.
At their meeting Monday night, Butler Township Commissioners approved resolution to make a Planning Assistance grant request of nearly $73,000 through the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
This grant from the Commonwealth Finance Authority requires a 15% local match. A recent data collection study determined that about four feet of silt has accumulated in the approximately three acre Preston Park pond. This leaves anywhere from two to four feet of water. The grant would help determine how much it would cost to dredge the pond and two tributaries as well as make repairs to the dam.
The township expects to hear back about if this grant has awarded sometime late summer or early fall.
