Butler Township is considering enacting an ordinance that would allow for members of volunteer fire companies to receive local tax credits.
The Volunteer Service Credit Program Ordinance was introduced during a meeting Monday night which would allow firefighters within the township to receive a refund of up to $250 in local earned income tax.
A public hearing on this program has been set for Mon., June 18 at 7 p.m. during which time the public is encouraged to participate in the discussion process. The ordinance could be adopted by final vote at the July meeting.
A resolution would also need to be adopted in order to finalize the criteria used for judging how much of a credit each volunteer would be eligible to collect. That criteria would likely be determined by meetings with the Butler Township fire chiefs concerning levels of participation.
