Monday is the end of an era for a long-time fixture of Butler Township government.
Butler Township Commissioner President Joe Hasychak is stepping down from the administration of the municipality after a total of 32 years and one month.
“I originally ran in 1980 and people said ‘Why did you run? What was your agenda?” Hasychak told our newsroom. “I didn’t have an agenda. I just wanted to serve in my community.”
Although he is not planning on ending all involvement in local government, Hasychak is proud of what has been accomplished during his time as commissioner.
“I have an interest to serve on some future boards as I go out of this office,” he said. “I’m very proud of Butler Township and what we have accomplished.”
Hasychak’s place on the board will be taken next month by Jim Lockhaiser Jr. who was elected in November.
