Butler Township has introduced an ordinance to foster improved cooperation with the City of Butler.
The Butler Township commissioners gave preliminary approval during a meeting on Monday to an intergovernmental agreement that would allow the city and township to share some equipment and personnel in order to more effectively accomplish public works maintenance projects.
Officials say one way to promote safety and increase savings for both municipalities would be to allow city employees to use township-owned mowers and for township employees to use the city’s street sweeper. Workers will continue to take direction only from their supervisor within the municipality in which they are employed.
This agreement will be voted on in mid-June.
