The Butler Transit Authority has entered into a unique agreement with a neighboring transit organization to keep commuter service running.
At their meeting earlier this week, Executive Director John Paul informed the Authority’s Board of Directors about a coach bus that had to be removed from service with engine problems. It is not known how long it will take to make repairs.
This left the Authority without any backup buses for their commuter service to Pittsburgh. Paul reached out to officials with the Westmoreland Transit Authority who own a couple of buses they are not currently using.
This resulted in an agreement by which BTA will lease two buses for up to six months in exchange for 110 gallons of diesel oil which is no longer used by the Butler fleet but is of benefit to Westmoreland transit.
These 45 foot MCI coach buses will be fitted with new Butler signage and used only for commuter service if a regular bus is not able to function. BTA is expecting delivery of a new coach bus sometime around the end of March.
