The Butler Transit Authority is moving ahead with plans to accommodate buses that operate on compressed natural gas.
Executive Director John Paul informed the authority that his office will begin advertising this week to find a company able to upgrade their current facility, which is phase one of the project. After responses to the advertisement are received, the authority will approve the selection of a company to begin work sometime in late March or early April.
Phase two of the project will include the construction of a compressed natural gas fueling station near the site of the authority’s facility on Hollywood Drive. The project is expected to be completed around the end of October 2017 when the authority anticipates the delivery of three new CNG buses.
While 80 percent of phase one will be paid for by federal funding with 20 percent state and local funds, 100 percent of phase two will be paid though funding from the state.
