The Butler Transit Authority is beginning its commuter service to Pittsburgh today.
The service will consist of two morning trips and two afternoon trips on weekdays. The bus will pick up riders at the downtown Butler bus terminal, Pullman Square, Glade Mills and Twelve Oaks Mansion Park before arriving at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh.
“We’re just happy we’re in a position that we can provide this service immediately and hopefully more people will be able to use it in the future for commuter service as we add amenities,” authority executive director John Paul said in an interview.
Service previously provided by Myers Coach Lines to Pittsburgh has been discontinued. Ultimately though, according to Paul, ridership will determine if this is a viable service that will continue and be expanded.
“Unfortunately it’s not in addition to the Myers service. This is a new service. And it’s trimmed down from what Myers provided because this is basically a commuter service,” he said.
A one-way cash fare is $5. A 15-trip pass can be purchased for $60 and a 31-trip pass can be purchased for $120. Passes will be sold on the bus Monday and Tuesday for cash or check only. Myers bus passes will be accepted on these BTA commuter trips.
