Representatives of the Butler Transit Authority will again approach Center Township about joining Butler City and Butler Township with a local funding match.
As part of a non-agenda item brought up by Butler Township Commissioner Dave Zarnick during a Butler Transit Authority meeting Tuesday, the authority board directed authority Executive Director John Paul and representatives from Butler City and Butler Township to speak with reps from Center Township.
The authority currently provides service to VA Butler Healthcare (which is in Butler Township) but once the services at that facility are transitioned to the new VA building in Center Township, many people could be stuck without a ride.
Currently, some businesses and organizations outside Butler City and Butler Township contribute to the transit authority for bus service, but with the recent growth in Center Township, it could make sense to expand the authority’s reach.
Paul said he met with VA administrators a couple months ago and provided price figures for the VA to contract directly with the authority but has not heard back since.
