The Butler Transit Authority received some good news from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation earlier this week.
According to Authority Executive Director John Paul, PennDOT has given approval to purchase five compressed natural gas coach buses for commuter service to Pittsburgh.
After getting approval from PennDOT, Paul contacted the Federal Transit Administration to make sure over $2.6 million in federal money set aside for the project was still available. Once those commitments were in place, Paul was able to move forward with the bus purchases on Wednesday.
PennDOT has hired a consultant to formulate a business operational plan for the service. Service is not estimated to begin until July 1st, 2018.
