Butler Township has decided how it will distribute money awarded from the state and earmarked for local, volunteer fire departments.
The Butler Township commissioners approved a motion Monday night that would divide nearly $116,000 equally among Butler Township’s three volunteer fire departments (Butler Township Fire District 3, Mercer Road, and South Butler.)
This amount is slightly more than last year and can be used by departments for a variety of safety-related initiatives.
The funding comes from a 2 percent tax on out-of-state casualty and fire insurance premiums.
