Barring unforeseen circumstances, the Butler Township commissioners do not anticipate a tax increase in order to realize their 2017 budget.
Township administrators and department heads presented their needs to the commissioners Wednesday night as part of the annual budget meeting.
Expense estimates for 2017 remained unchanged for the most part, with the exceptions of replacing vehicles in the police and roads departments, new computer equipment for the police, and an ambitious road paving schedule. Revenue increases expected next year from areas like property tax, business privilege tax, and earned income tax are anticipated to match those added expenses.
The current tax rate for Butler Township is 11.25 mils and 2017 is anticipated to be the sixth consecutive year without an increase.
The commissioners will pass a preliminary 2017 budget with a vote later this month (Nov. 21) before finalizing the plan for next year in December.
