Butler Township has been awarded a federal grant to help update their traffic light systems.
The Southwest Planning Commission awarded the $1.1 million Sync Up grant to improve a total of 18 lights in Butler Township and Butler City. Ten of the lights are located in Butler Township.
The grant awards 80 percent of the funds for the project but requires a 20 percent local match. For Butler Township, this means that a total of $50,000 is needed over two years. That money has already been included in the budgets of this year and next.
Township Zoning Officer Jesse Hines credited Gateway Engineering with helping to write the proposal for this grant. The township continues to look for other grant opportunities to help with other traffic signals.
