Butler Township has revised how it will distribute money awarded from the state and earmarked for local volunteer fire departments.
The Butler Township commissioners approved a motion Monday night to rescind the equal three-way split of the nearly $116,000 that they approved last month. The new allocation divides the funds at a rate of 50 percent to Butler Township Fire District 3 and 25 percent each to Mercer Road and South Butler.
This amount is slightly more than last year and can be used by departments for a variety of safety-related initiatives.
The funding comes from a 2 percent tax on out-of-state casualty and fire insurance premiums.
