The Butler Area School Board has given preliminary approval for some new uniforms to be purchased for next year.
At their education committee meeting Monday night, several board members heard a presentation by Band Director Jeff Kroner about the state of sequinette and marching band uniforms.
Due to the fact that the sequinette uniforms are 11 years old and only 48 remain, Kroner asked that money be available in next year’s budget to purchase 80 newly redesigned ones.
The full school board agreed and approved up to $12,000 be set aside in next year’s budget depending on the ultimate cost after the bidding process. Action needed to be taken now due to auditions being held for next year’s sequinettes later this week.
Kroner said he would look into sponsorships from community businesses to help defray the costs.
Kroner also hopes to purchase 280 new band uniforms but those are considerably more expensive and the need is less immediate.
