A local man has entered a guilty plea in federal court on charges that he assisted in the preparation of a false tax return.
Anthony Davis, 59, of Butler pleaded guilty to one count before United States District Judge Nora Barry Fischer.
An IRS criminal investigation determined that in his role as a return preparer, Davis filed a false 2015 federal income tax return for another person.
Sentencing will take place Dec. 6 and Davis could face up to three years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both.
Assistant United States Attorney Gregory C. Melucci is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.
