The Butler Area School District has finalized a change to their policy concerning school bus accidents.
The revision changes what’s considered a reportable crash vs. a non-reportable crash.
Officials say a reportable crash will be anytime there is an injury or the bus needs to be towed. In this case, both a district representative and a representative from the bus company will be sent to the scene.
A non-reportable crash will be all minor accidents. In this case, Butler’s policy is bus drivers will report the incident to the bus company and then continue on with the route. The bus company will then notify the district’s transportation office.
Officials hope this new policy will eliminate delays in service. In the past, reps from the district and the bus company had to report to the scene of all incidents even if they were extremely minor- like bumping into a sign or hitting a deer.
In any case, parents or guardians of students involved in any sort of bus accident- minor or not- will be notified by a phone call.
