The Butler Area School District hopes to save time and money with an investment in new technology related to school board meetings.
At a school board meeting Tuesday night, officials voted 7-2 to enter into an agreement with a company to provide BoardDocsPro, which is a web-based document management service that’s similar to other services such as FileCenter’s document management software as well as other document management solutions. The yearly subscription fee prorated for a beginning in March is $3,000. There is also a $1,000 one-time start-up fee.
The goal of the software is to eliminate a large amount of paper and increase accessibility for administrators, as well as promote transparency with the public. Other districts in the area like Pine Richland and Deer Lakes currently use this service.
The board also voted to purchase five laptop computers that will be used by board members during meetings, as well as staff at the administration building. Other board members will use their own laptops to access information at meetings.
The money for this expense will come from funds that were budgeted to be spent in other areas where there turned out to be no need.
